Does hypnosis help you lose weight?
There’s scientific evidence supporting the success of hypnosis for losing weight.
A 2018 study of patients with severe obesity focused on achieving self-control when eating a meal. The study found hypnosis helped the patients feel full after a meal. Habitual hypnosis users in the study showed greater weight loss than those who weren’t hypnotised.
Another study consisted of 32 obese patients participating in weekly hypnotherapy sessions for ten weeks. The aim was to develop a healthy and balanced diet. The results showed the patients had a lower BMI (body mass index) and less leptin in their blood, a hormone related to obesity.
A review of 119 scientific articles studying if hypnosis works for weight loss also showed promising results.
Most of the hypnotic sessions focused on changing dietary habits and behaviour around food. The results suggested patients lost weight during and long after the sessions. In some cases, between one to ten kilograms were lost. Another study showed that patients exercised more over the study in the hypnotised group compared to the group that wasn’t receiving treatment.
These studies show that hypnosis may improve eating habits and quality of life.
